Canolfan Hanes Uwchgwyrfai

The former Eben Fardd Schoolroom at Clynnog Fawr was a community centre established with the support of the Welsh Assembly Government, European Union Objective 1, Gwynedd Council and the Snowdonia Inovation Fund. The area stretches from Bontnewydd (Afon Gwyrfai) in the North to the Yr Eifl Mountains in the south and includes the Nantlle Valley. The Centre prides itself on our rich history and creates a wealth of activities through the medium of Welsh eg:

Publishing Utgorn Cymru (a national and patriotic history magazine, quarterly, in CD / mp3 format for subscribers, it is also sent to the blind for free, the Editor is Geraint Jones); publishing audio CDs relating to Welsh history; publishing books and greetings cards; organizing lectures and cultural activities including a book discussion group (Friends of Eban); arranging occasional exhibitions; historic garden; developing a digital archive. Volunteers are responsible for these activities.

Our most recent activity is the creation of Cof y Cwmwd www.cof.uwchgwyrfai.cymru which is fast becoming the main source of information about the history and traditions of Cwmwd Uwchgwyrfai. National Lottery funding was received to set up this site but it now relies on volunteers led by Gareth Haulfryn Williams.
