Ysgol Crud y Werin and Ysgol Abererch, Gwynedd are eager to appoint creative practitioners to facilitate an innovative and exciting scheme as part of the Lead Creative Schools Scheme, Arts Council of Wales. The aim of the Lead Creative Schools Scheme is to promote new ways of working in schools, giving the school an opportunity to develop an innovative and purposeful learning programme aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning. After the delivery of exciting projects at Ysgol Crud y Werin during 2015/16 and 2016/17 they have now created a partnership with Ysgol Abererch, and are planning a joint creative project. This will be a means of sharing good practice and expanding the ethos of them Lead Creative Schools scheme to a new school. This scheme will take place during the Spring Term, with a total of 37 year 3 and 4 pupils taking part. Pupils have already been working with their Creative Agent to start planning their project; sharing ideas and expressing opinions.

We wish to appoint Creative Practitioners working in the fields of drama, art and information technology and computers (ICT) to respond to the following research question...

Are drama, art and ICT techniques able to strengthen and develop the mathematical skills of year 3 and 4 pupils and increase parental understanding of the subject?

We would like to work with creative practitioners to carry out creative activities to learn the four mathematical rules of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We are eager for pupils to develop the ability to use their mathematical understanding independently and confidently in solving problems in a real context. We wish to respond to this challenge through drama, art and the use of ICT. It is anticipated that the project would have a commendable effect on the attainment of many pupils in mathematical skills and an outstanding effect on the confidence and enjoyment of pupils in the field. It is anticipated that the plan will have a desirable effect on the provision of both schools - as our staff have the opportunity to work together regularly and share ideas / practices, as well as receive training from practitioners and develop ideas for exciting activities and learning and teaching. Parents will also be invited to contribute in the project to develop skills, confidence and understanding of how to support their child to develop these everyday skills in convenient, successful ways.

Many pupils have a great interest in computer games and technology. They have also suggested working to the theme of a haunted school and / or animals. Having an opportunity to work outdoors or out of the school environment would create excitement and would be of great interest to pupils. This project will be required to create a resource that could be used in the school to continue with the creative methods of teaching after the end of the scheme. This can be determined after the practitioners have been appointed but some initial ideas include animation films. At the end of the project we will be holding an event at the school to share the work of the children with staff, pupils, friends and families.
