Gillian Brownson

Gillian, a Holyhead-based theatre practitioner and writer, has been working hard since returning home in 2013, to bring theatre and stories to the heart of the community. Most recently, her work with Gwynedd Greadigol has involved taking poetry and traditional storytelling projects into dementia care settings and creating new writing based on the experiences of the residents. You can hear an example of the work here https://soundcloud.com/gillian-brownson-thompson

In partnership with the Federation of Museums and Art Galleries in Wales and the Holyhead Maritime Museum, she has brought the ‘Those in peril’ Theatre in Education programme to schools, as well as working on other school projects with the Arts Council of Wales and Spectrum Drama for CADW. Gillian also maintains long running partnerships with various National Trust sites in Wales, where she has created a repertoire of one-person interpretive performances and also works with various partners as a traditional storyteller.

As well as writing for performance, Gillian is a published poet and a writer of children’s fiction, recently long-listed for the Bloomsbury New Children’s Author Prize.

Gillian works primarily in English, but is able to deliver bi-lingual projects, and wishes to use Welsh increasingly in her work.
